Your First Aid Team trained 130 teachers and staff from Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School, Point Cook, St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Sunshine West and St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Belgrave in first aid. The first aid training was specifically designed to meet the emergency responsiveness of the schools and the Education Department Standards in regards to effective risk management.
We teamed up with the School Principals and Staff to design a first aid program relevant to the school such as CPR, choking, bleeding control, asthma, wounds and allergic reactions. We were able to schedule the training into each school’s timetable which minimised any disruption. This meant being flexible and sometimes creative with our timing and delivery.
A blended training model was delivered via an easy to navigate online system so first aid theory was completed prior to the in-person training. This maximised the amount of time for participants to learn practical lifesaving skills at the in-person training. It ensured effective time management for teachers and staff.
Fiona Luxmoore and Monique Purchase from Your First Aid Team delivered the training sessions at the schools. They provided everything needed;
All participants met the certification requirements and received a Nationally Recognised First Aid Certificate with CPR valid for 12 months and Workplace First Aid valid for 3 years.
Post-training feedback showed a high level of first aid competence across all schools and all participants rated the training very positively. Resulting in the Teachers and Staff being more effective and confident to help before professional medical aid arrives. Your First Aid Team ensured all schools met or exceeded the required safety regulations in regards to first aid.
Due to the high levels of satisfaction, all schools have booked further training dates with Your First Aid Team in 2025.
The first aid training with these three Catholic Primary Schools was a huge success. We achieved our goals of creating consistent safety standards, empowering through education, integrating best practice medical knowledge and meeting regulatory requirements. The training didn’t just teach essential first aid skills, it helped build a culture of preparedness across these schools while creating an engaging team building experience. This case study shows how with good planning, collaboration, flexibility, large-scale educational first aid training can be very successful.
